Ingredients
  

Core Ingredients

  • 1 cup honey high-quality, natural
  • 1 cup ketchup or tomato paste diluted if using paste
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar can substitute with white or rice vinegar

Spices & Seasonings

  • 2 cloves garlic minced (or 1 teaspoon garlic powder)
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp mustard Dijon or yellow
  • salt & black pepper to taste

Optional Enhancers

  • 1/2 tsp liquid smoke for extra smoky flavor
  • hot sauce or chili flakes optional, for heat
  • herbs such as thyme or oregano

Instructions
 

  • Pour honey, ketchup, and apple cider vinegar into a heavy-bottomed saucepan.
  • Use a whisk to mix thoroughly until the mixture is completely smooth.
  • Gradually sprinkle in garlic, onion powder, smoked paprika, mustard, salt, and black pepper while stirring continuously.
  • Optional: Add liquid smoke for extra smoky flavor.
  • Bring the sauce mixture to a gentle simmer over low heat and cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • The sauce should thicken and coat the back of a spoon.
  • Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  • Transfer sauce to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before use.

Notes

For a lower sugar version, reduce honey and enhance flavor with additional spices.
