  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips or chopped bittersweet chocolate optional, for extra richness

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  • Cut in the chilled butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Slowly add ice water until the dough comes together. Wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour.
  • Roll out the dough, transfer to a pie dish, and trim excess edges.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Whisk together sugar, flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  • Add eggs and whisk until smooth.
  • Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  • Pour the filling into the pie crust and bake for 45-50 minutes.
  • Let the pie cool completely before serving.
